Through an invitation by the Hong Kong Taekwondo Association
(HKTA), the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) sent two teams to participate
in the 4th Asian Cities Gold Cup Taekwondo Invitational Championships.
Six countries; namely Brunei, China, Macau, Singapore, Vietnam and host
country Hong Kong participated in the event, held on 28 February 1999
at the Kowloon Park Indoor Games Hall.

The Singapore team that took part in the Hong Kong tournament comprised of 13 players.
They were accompanied by Mr Steven Chong (Head of Team) and Ms Park Hyun Sook (Coach). The Singapore team touched down in Hong Kong a day before the tournament and resided at the BP International House. They went through a two-hour morning workout before all officials and players of the participating countries were treated to a welcome lunch by the HKTA. Whilst the players were given time-off to do some shopping after lunch, team officials Mr Chong and Ms Park attended the Head of Team meeting and drew lots for the tournament fixtures. The Singapore team performed admirably in the tournament, with a harvest of 10 trophies out of 13 entries. In addition, S Sinnathurai walked away with the Best Active player award. Said Mr Chong: "By and large, the whole team performed well. I hope all of us who were there will have fond memories of the trip and would have gained a lot of experience." |
