The International Referee Seminar was the 38th in its series. It was held in conjunction
with the 14th Men's and 7th Women's World Taekwondo Championships in Edmonton, Canada from 29 May-1 June 1999.
The seminar was conducted at the University of Alberta, Canada over a period of four days. This seminar attracted a total of 424 participants from about 30 countries of which Singapore was one. Our representatives were Stanley Yeo Boon Thiang and Park Hyun Sook. Stanley was selected for the course because of his outstanding contribution to officiating. He has been a Ist Class National Referee for 19 years. Hyun Sook was sent for the course as part of her personal development as the national coach. The subjects covered in the seminar were: 1) Status of the WTF 2) Issues on Competition 3) Principles of Officiating 4) Competition Rules 5) Psychology of Officiating 6) Scoring Method 7) Analysis of Competition 8) Discussion of Scoring Device 9) Practical Sessions - a) Competition Procedures b) Hand Signals |
