Singapore Squad Trains in TKD's Birthplace |
THE SPORTS EXCELLENCE 2000 Europa Training Squad embarked on a training stint in South Korea from 15-22 March 1998. All 14 members of the SPEX 2000 squad had already spent six weeks training rigorously at the Paya Lebar Community Taekwondo Club, in preparation for the demands that lay in store for them in Seoul. Training was held at Kyung Won University and the team was put under the watchful eyes of the coach attached to the university, Mr Seong Ho Choi. After four days of training, the Singaporean team was joined by the Korean University squad, and through the help of an interpreter, encountered little problems understanding their fellow trainees or, for that matter, coach Seong. |
On 20 March, after several days of hard training, the team put on their
tourists' outfits and went on a Seoul City tour of places like Kyongbok
Palace, Yong In Everiand and also Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Federation
Headquarters. Before returning home, the team visited Hong Kong and had a friendly match against their local without shopping and the following day, all were given time off to take in the fast-vibrant city, before flying All in all, the SPEX 2000 Taekwondo Team's stint was extremely invaluable, with skills brushed up and knowledge enhanced, not forgetting the fond memories that they encountered. |
